- Only 17% of employers believe their organization is extremely well prepared to deal with opioid use in the workplace
- While employee training and education is a main driver of preparedness, only 28% of employers offer opioid-specific training and education to their workforce

Consider substance abuse support
Many employers choose to offer a substance abuse treatment option for their employees. If this is the route you choose, ensure that evidence-based treatment mechanisms are covered by employer health care plans. It is always the employer’s choice whether to offer employee assistance programs, but if you do, you must then support them as they return to work. You may also choose a zero-tolerance policy. If this is your choice, make sure it is clearly spelled out to employers before employment begins.
