Holiday hiring: Safety protocol is key

What is attracting workers to businesses hiring this holiday season (and likely 2021?) According to the AP, safety protocols are key to attracting new talent to your workplace, whether you own a gym, a retailer, or a warehouse.

Businesses are hiring this holiday season, and the big frontrunners, Walmart, Target, and Amazon, are hiring throughout most of the U.S. However, pandemic fears still exist among workers and shoppers. So, how are businesses overcoming this and appealing to shoppers and employees this holiday season? They are carefully creating a business experience that incorporates safety testing and protocols from the moment of hiring.

More businesses are employing COVID-19 testing than ever

Now, businesses have several options for COVID-19 testing, including instant COVID-19 tests for employees daily and lab-based testing at local sites. Some businesses are choosing to have a third-party on site to test daily to minimize exposure for teams. This is especially helpful in businesses where a large number of employees work together or maintaining business as usual is critical.

Additionally, businesses are putting COVID safety procedures in place that are unlikely to end with the vaccine. Badges that beep at less than 6 feet in proximity to another employee, mandatory masks for employees and customers, temperature checks, and handwashing stations are all now options for employers who want to stay in business this season.

Is your business COVID-19 proof?

While no business can be absolutely safe from COVID-19 surges throughout the nation, there are protocols you can put in place to both attract employees and stay safe this holiday season.

  • use COVID-19 testing on-site to protect your team
  • enforce safety procedures for your customers and employees
  • distribute flu vaccines as soon as possible to all interested employees
  • have a plan for COVID-19 vaccine distribution
  • communicate with employees on the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act and the need to stay home if infected

This year, we will experience a safely distanced holiday season. Keep your business safe in 2020 and look forward to 2021!
